the life of zooey who happens to be Bipolar 2
A friend of mine posted lyrics come from Let’s Get Crazy the other day.
Talk about serious flashback moment.
Purple Rain is part of my musical history bringing back memories around When Doves Cry, I Would Die for U and Purple Rain, among others. I played the hell out of it and knew the songs by heart. That man can play the emotional shit out of a guitar. His songs rang true. His imagery was amazing.
The movie, corny as it was, allowed fans a bit of a glimpse into the Prince enigma.Without the internet, there was very little other than a few articles and the albums themselves. He was a man from the Midwest, from Minneapolis, right out of the music scene. And, even though the film was written by another, there was Prince, right there, acting and singing. Purportedly, he had over 200 songs ready to consider for this movie. Quite a musical back pocket.
It was insanely hard to find any version of Let’s Get Crazy online except for terrible karaoke stuff. I am sure this is due to all the copyright battles he’s had over the years. Yeah, not posting someone else singing Let’s Get Crazy. Hopefully you can see/hear the link below.
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor Prince – Lets Go Crazy
The song is about letting lose. Not letting things get you down. Living. It is also a little bit of mystery. Prince sings:
Let’s go crazy
Let’s get nuts
Look 4 the purple banana
‘Til they put us in the truck, let’s go! – Prince
There are several forum discussions about what that this purple banana means. Is this the purple from Purple Rain? Is it used just as his signature color pared with ‘go bananas’? The song tells the story of living while your alive. Hanging tough. Moving on. Finding more than what you have. Go bananas, don’t stay where you are.
As with most Prince songs, his meaning is as allusive as the title of the film, album and song, Purple Rain. Prince has said that people look and get meaning from it as they see it. Just like literature, poetry and other forms of artistic expression, the purple rain means many things to all kinds of folks. The meaning of the Purple Rain song then and even now means happy rain to me. I’ve envisioned it as dancing in royal or joyous rain. Washing away sadness. The song is about moving on and hoping for happiness.
Find a purple banana and let go. Dance in the purple rain. Do either one today.
Gathered with ya’ll, getting “through this thing called life….”
