the big black dog….called depression

A couple of days ago, I came across this YouTube video about depression published by the World Health Organization. Using the analogy of a black dog called depression, it describes how everyday life is lived…barely lived with depression as a companion, as a burden. Honestly, it made me cry, not in a sad way but relief that is so truly spoke to this topic.

If you have depression, share this video with those who love and support you.  Friends and family will benefit from this description. If you know someone with depression, this will help you better understand what they are most likely going through.

It is worth EVERY second of its 4+ minutes. Just watch with the sound on. Please.

hugs,
zooey

P.S. The term ‘black dog’ has a history of describing depression.   Here is a wikipedia reference…

English writer Samuel Johnson used the term “the black dog” in the 1780s to describe his own depression, and it was subsequently popularized by depression sufferer former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.
